Rotary Club of Southborough - Foldscopes
Partnering with other Rotary Clubs around the world - we have provided foldscopes (portable paper microscopes) to promote biology by exploring the microbiology environment. These foldscopes can visualize tiny things like bacteria and microorganisms as well as larger samples like dust, insects, plants, and tissues.

Local and International Projects
Rotary Earth Day Town Clean Up
In partnership with Southborough Department of Public Works - the club coordinates a day to clean up the town by highlighting what road or neighborhood at the DPW building. DPW provides bags and gloves. Then, participants make their way to the location to pick up trash. Participants can leave the collected trash bags on the side of the road for the DPW staff to drive by and pick up!
Local Event
Handbag drive for unsheltered mothers
Helping those in need from gently worn coats to diaper drives and now, gently used handbags to give those who would appreciate and enjoy.
The club started this effort in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Marlborough to support those who need coverage of Extended Stay prior to moving to a shelter or a longer term housing solution. As we looked into this problem more, we found that there increasing costs that families are not able to maintain. These efforts are to restore the belief that yes, someone out there truly cares and will take action to demonstrate such.

Rotary Club of Southborough Day of Service for a Pollination Preservation Habitat
The Rotary Club of Southborough is working with Southborough’s Open
Space Preservation Commission (OSPC) under the direction of their Chair, Freddie
Gillespie, in partnership with the Southborough Open Land Foundation (SOLF).
Summary: Site preparation for a future Pollination Preservation Meadow planting.
The goal is to diversify the existing plant community to include more plants for our most
at risk native pollinators. The area will be planted with the specific native plants that
support declining species of native pollinators.
The project location is in the meadow adjacent to the Pollination Preservation Garden on
Route 30 / Main Street, Southborough, MA 01772, at the Beals Preserve of Southborough
Open Land Foundation (SOLF)
What tasks to do:
Volunteers will help prepare the garden.
Cardboard will be laid down like wall-to-wall carpeting and woodchips placed on top.
This will smother the existing vegetation to create a planting bed for later.
